Match report: Friday Night's game at Chinnor RFC, Kingsey Road vs Leicester Tigers, 4th September

10th September 2026

In his pre-match notes, chairman Nick Stainton wrote:
"A historic night for Chinnor RFC [as Leicester Tigers become] the first time a Premiership club to visit Kingsey Road. This is a milestone moment for the club, the town and every supporter who’s ever dreamed of top‑flight rugby on our turf. This isn’t just another pre‑season friendly — it’s a statement. Hosting Leicester Tigers, one of English rugby’s most storied clubs, puts Chinnor RFC in the spotlight and marks a new chapter for Kingsey Road."

If this sounds like hyperbole, the game more than lived up to its billing. A crowd of some 3,000 fans roared on Chinnor to a 55-0 victory. True this was not the Tigers’ first team, nor even the second, but you can only play what’s in front of you - and play, Chinnor did. Dynamic running, slick handling and dazzling team play confounded the Tigers and Chinnor’s stoic defence kept the opposition out to zero.

A great evening ensued with fans of both sides mingling with players pitch-side and ongoing celebrations. It truly was an evening to make the town proud.

The final pre-season home game is this Saturday, September 12th at 3pm, against Caldy. Fans can watch Champ Rugby for half price, with tickets available for a tenner!

After the friendly, the season begins with a home game on Saturday 19th September vs the mighty Ealing Trailfinders. Can Chinnor win again? Come along on 19/9 and for £20 you can find out. Whatever the result, you can be guaranteed great sport, a friendly atmosphere and a fun family day out with your friends and neighbours.
