Long Crendon held a Fete on the 8th July to fundraise for the restoration of the old village school which is also now community Club and an essential part of Long Crendon Village.
There were numerous stalls all contributing to help raise funds and was well attended raising nearly £1,900 for the refurbishment of the old toilets. One of the attractions was the Long Crendon FC mens teams speed radar to see how fast players could kick the ball.
Up stepped a hopeful Wanangwa an exchange student from Malawi and on the day his best of three shots earned him the fastest shot at his age level at 57 MPH. The prize was a new match ball, but when Wanangwa said he was sending the ball he won to his younger brother in Malawi, a plan was quickly made.
Wanangwa explained that his Village did not have proper footballs to play with and Gerald Reilly (Manager of Long Crendon FC) and Alistair Banham (Chairman of Long Crendon FC) made an easy decision. They could not let Wanangwa's kindness go unnoticed, so Gerlad and Alistair thought that is was only correct to also give Wanangwa another football. Alistair also said that the football club will arrange to send some Long Crendon Football kit from both Senior & Junior clubs to Wanagwa's brother in Malawi.
Paul Davies the event organiser and chairman thanked everyone for their kind support and help throughout the day for raising much needed funds for the restoration of the club.
"Not only have we raised funds to help restore the old School it was great to hear that this young man came away from our fete with a smile that said everything".
