Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s),
The temperature forecast for Thame on Monday has increased to 39oC. The vast majority of classrooms at school do not have air conditioning and during the day, the room temperature can increase to significantly above the temperature outside.
We have reviewed our Risk Assessment in light of this most recent change and have determined that the school cannot operate safely for students on Monday.
Remote learning will be set for students using SatchelOne so that staff and students can manage the times when they work and not have to sit in front of a computer during the hottest parts of the day.
We will review the position during the day on Monday to determine whether a full or partial opening on Tuesday is possible.
We had very much wanted to avoid this outcome, but the red warning of extreme heat is unprecedented. Even with the mitigations that we had planned, we do not think we will be able to ensure that all students and staff remain sufficiently cool and hydrated to make the conditions safe.
