Lidl has now submitted a planning application for a new food store at 47 Aylesbury Road, Thame

14th November 2025

Please see the below update from Lidl:

Lidl has now submitted a planning application for a new food store at 47 Aylesbury Road, which will deliver a convenient and accessible shopping experience for local residents whilst providing up to 40 new jobs.

We have provided an overview of our masterplan, including the improvements we’ve already made in response to your feedback. However, the planning process doesn’t stop here…

You can help deliver this store by registering your support for the proposals through South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning portal - every supportive comment helps with securing planning permission for this much-needed supermarket in Thame.

Click here or use the Reference No. P25/S3492/FUL on the council’s planning portal to leave a comment showing your support.

Listening To The Community

The vast majority of the feedback received through public consultation was positive, and comments on drainage, traffic and access have been incorporated into the submitted designs. For example, LIDL has worked closely with Oxfordshire County Council to refine our flood mitigation proposals, and have added a pedestrian refuge to our access point to further improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.

The New Store Will Provide:

  • Improved shopping choice through a new retailer supporting British farmers and suppliers
  • Customer facilities, including dedicated in-store bakery and customer toilets
  • A contemporary and efficient building design for a modern, convenient shopping experience
  • A significant enhancement of green space on-site, including new trees and plants
  • An improved drainage solution to help manage flood risk
  • Electric vehicle charging points and roof-mounted solar panels
  • Up to 40 new jobs for local people, paid above the Real Living Wage with no zero-hour contracts
  • Further economic benefits throughout the construction process

These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space.
