Let Thame's Community Larder help stretch your budget

Did you know there is a Community Larder in Thame? A Community Larder is NOT a Foodbank and is not means tested; it's open to all. It is a place to access food that is supermarket surplus and is all within 'use by' or 'best before' dates. The Larder operates from Christchurch in the Upper High Street and is open every Thursday from 2.30pm - 4.30pm, including a free community cafe.

There is an annual joining fee of £10.00 and individuals and couples can join for £3.50, families for £7.00 per week payable by direct debit. Benefits include:

  • An invitation to attend the larder hub and community café each week
  • A choice of up to 10 items of food plus free additional fruit and vegetables (up to 20 items for families)
  • An opportunity to pre-order boxes that can be made up for collection
  • Newsletters and information will be available on healthy eating and nutrition

The Thame Foodbank provides emergency supplies of essential food items to those in our community who are struggling financially. During January 73 parcels were delivered to 89 adults and 63 children.

Currently the most needed items are: bottles of squash, tinned rice pudding, tinned custard, 1 litre cartons of UHT semi-skimmed and whole milk, 1 litre cartons of UHT fruit juice, 500g and 1kg bags of granulated sugar, tins of meat (e.g. ham, stew, mince) and there are collection points in the Co-op, Sainsbury's, the Town Hall and Waitrose.

If you, or anyone you know is in need of support from the Thame Foodbank please contact Sharing Life on 0300 201 0212 or 07541 299010.
