Freddie van Mierlo MP joins community ride in support of the Thame – Haddenham Greenway

8th December 2025

Freddie van Mierlo MP joined local councillors and community cyclists on Friday 5th December for a short ride between Thame and Haddenham to highlight his continued support for the proposed Thame to Haddenham Greenway.

The Thame MP has already spoken multiple times in Parliament in support of the scheme, and is now pressing the two council, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire to make it a reality.

The Greenway would create a safe, dedicated walking and cycling route between Thame and Haddenham,  providing a much-needed alternative to the busy A418. With the project now identified as a priority in Oxfordshire County Council's Strategic Plan, progress continues toward delivering the route.

Cllr Kate Gregory said:

"Residents have been calling for a safer option for over twenty years. The Greenway will make active travel between Thame and Haddenham far more accessible, and it's encouraging to see real steps forward."

Participants included Freddie van Mierlo MP, Mayor Andy Gilbert, Cllr Kate Gregory, members of Thame Cycling Club and long-standing Greenway supporters.

Freddie van Mierlo MP added:

"The Greenway has the potential to transform everyday local journeys. I wanted to get out today and cycle the existing route to understand first hand the dangers of the busy A418 route. I was glad to have my helmet on, but I was also struck by the short distance between the two settlements and how active travel could - and should be - be the first choice for transport if a safe greenway were delivered.  Today's ride was also a reminder of just how much support there is for a safer and greener connection, and why it's so important we keep the momentum going."

We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
