Alice Broadway has been talking about her new book ‘Ink’ to students at Lord Williams’s School where she was once a student. ‘Ink’ is the first in a dystopian teen trilogy called the ‘Skin Books’, published by Scholastic. The story is about Leora who lives in a world where secrets can never be kept because your life is tattooed onto your skin. Then, when you die, your skin is made into a book of memories for your family. ‘Ink’ is about truth, lies, love and loyalty and according to Lord Williams’s librarian Sarah Minchin: ‘It’s more gripping than The Hunger Games and completely original and thought provoking.’
During Alice’s day at Lord Williams’s she held some writing workshops for students who thought up their own dystopian worlds and imagined how far fictional characters would go to protect their secrets. Many of our students asked Alice questions about life as a writer and where she got her ideas. Alice told them: ‘I’ve always been very interested in death and rituals surrounding dead bodies!’ No wonder the students enjoyed the talk so much! One Year 8 student enthused: ‘She’s even more amazing in real life!’
