Thame served up another entertaining match on Tuesday night as they beat Broadfields Utd 3-2 to progress in the league cup and set up a fantastic local derby against Risborough Rangers.
Thame started slowly against Broadfields who play there football in the league above and were struggling to get a foothold in the game early on, Broadfields were dictating most of the play and capitalised early when a through ball was expertly dispatched off the far post and in by Rex Kimona. Strangely this bought Thame to life and they dragged their way back into the game 10 minutes later when an exquisite through ball allowed Dan Delderfield to race through and chip the onrushing keeper 1-1.
Half time and Thame took control, Kedzierski crashing one off the bar before Gwilliam hit the post, however Broadfields were to score next, again breaking through, Rex Kimona managed to hold off Thomas Gibbons who could only bring him down for a penalty. This was calmly despatched for 2-1.
10 minutes left and staring defeat in the face Thame equalised a corner found its way back to the taker and on the second attempt Almond found Gibbons at the far post who headed back across goal for Prosper to head home for 2-2.
There was more drama to come though as a clearly flagging Broadfields were put to the sword in the dying seconds, a fantastic header from Rogers found Gwilliam whose delicate through ball found Almond, he had the pace and composure to race through and slide the ball past the keeper, sparking jubilation among the Thame players 3-2.
So Thame progress and the tie Vs Risborough is tbc in the next couple of weeks.
