Facemask maker wins Cash prize for Charity

She Came She sewed She Conquered

A long standing member of Thame Inner Wheel, Erica Stockwell won £100 cash prize for her chosen Charity after entering a facemask competition launched by the District 9 Inner Wheel Chairman, Elaine Morris.

Back in April in the early days of Lockdown, Elaine predicted masks would be the most sought after Autumn Fashion Accessory! The main criteria being: It had to be Fun with a Festive Flair by using crochet, knitting or stitching but it would not be intended for use.

At the Zoom District meeting on November 3rd and to the tune of Cliff Richard’s ‘Congratulations’, Erica was announced as the unanimous winner. Erica said ‘I have been involved with deafness for over fifty years, my daughter is a Speech and Language Therapist and a close family member has a severe hearing loss’. So it came as no surprise when she donated her prize money to The Hearing Dogs for the Deaf based at Saunderton, Princes Risborough.

Huge congratulations to Erica from the Thame Inner Wheel President Charlotte Elmer and its members.

On the home front, Thame Inner Wheel continues to grow in numbers when earlier this year our membership was increased with an additional five enthusiastic ladies – with all credit to President Charlotte’s superb networking skills. We continue to support local worthy causes and also of course, our charity this year, the Bucks Charitable Hospital Trust. Our general fundraising efforts have been severely restricted due to the Coronavirus but nonetheless, other imaginative ways have taken over via Zoom. Our coffers have steadily increased with a couple of on line quizzes, monthly raffles and beauty pamper evenings. Where there is a will, there is always the Inner Wheel way!

Season’s greetings to all of our members and supporters and for a positive 2021.
