Thame’s Neighbourhood Policing Team (NHPT) seized a vehicle and issued a Traffic Offence Report after discovering a driver operating without valid insurance—just a short distance from the local police station.
While on patrol in Chinnor, officers from the Thame NHPT noticed a vehicle that aroused suspicion. A routine check quickly revealed the vehicle had no valid insurance. After conducting a swift search of the area, officers located the vehicle in Thame.
Upon being stopped, the driver claimed to be on a “test drive” and stated they were covered under a Trader Policy. However, further investigation showed the vehicle was registered in the driver’s name. Checks with the Motor Insurance Bureau confirmed that although a Trade Policy did exist, the driver was not named on the policy and was not accompanied by the policyholder, a requirement for coverage during a test drive.
As a result:
- The vehicle was seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act
- The driver was issued a Traffic Offence Report
- They now face six penalty points and a fine
Police reminded the public to always ensure their insurance is valid and up to date—especially when driving near a police station.
