Cuttle Brook Volunteers

7th August 2025

Cuttle Brook Volunteers were busy last week cutting and spreading green hay over areas of spoil in the south meadow.   Spreading cut green hay is an effective way to introduce new plant species and enhance grassland biodiversity. The method, known as the "green hay" technique, involves harvesting grass and wildflowers from a species-rich donor site (the uncut meadows in the nature reserve) just as the seeds are ripe, then spreading it on the recipient site that lacks diversity. The seeds from the hay then drop and germinate, introducing new plant life to the spoil areas.

This is a very labour intense activity, and thanks go to the volunteers who spent their July working party sessions working hard to make this happen.

You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
