Thames Valley Police are taking action following multiple public concerns over dangerous parking practices in Chinnor, along with a swift response to a shoplifting and assault incident in Thame.
Local officers have been addressing a recurring issue of vehicles parked irresponsibly—particularly near zebra crossings in Chinnor. While some incidents may appear minor, authorities stress that even brief or seemingly harmless parking in such areas drastically reduces visibility for approaching drivers and endangers pedestrians.
One recent case resulted in a driver being fined and handed three penalty points on their licence. Police emphasize that common excuses such as “Everyone does it” or “I was only a second” offer no legal defence. Drivers are also reminded that using pavements for parking is not an acceptable alternative.
“We urge all drivers to park responsibly and consider the safety of all road users,” said a police spokesperson.
Meanwhile, earlier today, Thame Neighbourhood Policing Team responded to a report of shoplifting and assault at Sainsbury’s. PCs Pal and Eldridge quickly tracked down a vehicle suspected of involvement as it was leaving Thame. PCSO Keogh supported the investigation by making enquiries with local retailers.
The vehicle—carrying six occupants—was stopped and searched. Several items were seized and roadside interviews were conducted. Although the driver attempted to justify the number of passengers by citing an “urgent reason,” officers were unconvinced. The driver was issued a traffic ticket, which may lead to a fine and three penalty points.
A decision on criminal charges related to the shoplifting and assault is now pending.
Authorities continue to urge community vigilance and responsible behavior, both on the roads and in local businesses.
