Community Comes Together for Coffee, Cake, and Knitting in Support of SSNAP

20th February 2025

Residents of Long Crendon are coming together for a heartwarming cause as The Eight Bells pub hosts a special coffee morning and knitting session in support of the charity SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents).

The event, set to take place on Thursday, 27th February from 10 AM, aims to raise funds and gather much-needed knitted items, such as hats and blankets, for newborns at John Radcliffe Hospital (JR).

The Eight Bells has been actively collecting handmade donations for the hospital’s neonatal unit, where premature and sick babies receive life-saving care. The initiative encourages locals to contribute in any way they can—whether by knitting, donating wool, or baking cakes to support those taking part.

Attendees are asked to contribute a £5 donation, with all proceeds going directly to SSNAP to help fund their vital work. In appreciation of their support, participants will also be entered into a prize draw on the day.

SSNAP, established in 1982, provides essential care and assistance to sick newborns and their families, ensuring they receive the best possible support during difficult times. The charity relies on community efforts and donations to continue its work.

For those interested in getting involved or looking for more information, The Eight Bells encourages locals to reach out via 01844 698559 or email [email protected].

This event promises to be a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy a warm drink and a slice of cake, and make a real difference in the lives of newborns and their families.

You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
