Students at Chilworth House Upper School in Wheatley are taking part in community projects as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. One element of the award involves volunteering, and the school’s students are offering help with gardening and outdoor maintenance in the local area.
The Garden Maintenance initiative includes tasks such as mowing, strimming, and weeding. The school is already working with organisations including the Oxfordshire Homeless Movement, Abingdon Good Neighbour Scheme, and Blackbird Leys Youth Club. The team is now looking for more opportunities to assist community groups, elderly residents, or vulnerable individuals who may need help maintaining their green spaces.
In addition to the Duke of Edinburgh programme, students at Chilworth House Upper School also take part in work experience placements. Current placements include coffee shops, ground maintenance, gyms, publishing, and farms. These experiences give students a chance to develop practical skills and learn about different working environments.
The school is keen to hear from local businesses or organisations that could offer insight, placements, or opportunities to help students gain further experience in the world of work.
