A Thame garden has won a national competition run by housebuilder Bloor Homes. Margaret Dalton won the ‘Best Use of Colour’ category for her garden, which incorporated a wonderful variety of flowers and a colourful shed to create her winning entry.
A recent survey by Bloor Homes revealed that when it comes to choosing a new home, a garden is the second most important consideration for buyers after the price.
Inspired by these findings, the national housebuilder recently ran a competition to find the best themed garden across all its UK developments both past and present, and uncovered some beautiful, quirky and surprising results.
Vanessa Macnee, Regional Sales Director for Bloor Homes South Midlands, said: “Contrary to some perceptions of a new-build garden, we know from customer feedback that it’s much more than just an area of grass or a patio. What we saw from the entries was just how much Bloor Home owners love their outdoor space and the time and dedication that has gone into some of the entries was astonishing.”
Entrants were invited to enter their Bloor gardens into one of six categories, Best Place to Relax, Best Play Space, Best Use of Colour, Best Use of Space, Best Party Garden and Best Communal Space.
The winners were chosen by the Bloor Landscape Design Team. Judith Selby, Landscape Design Team Leader at Bloor commented: “We were so impressed by what many have achieved. It was particularly difficult in some categories as there were so many good gardens. There were some very close contenders in this category but we picked Margaret as the winner for the harmonious mix of flower colours and the careful choice of the garden shed colour to complete the composition.”
Of her entry Mrs Dalton said: “The garden has been planted with colourful perennials, some annuals and lovely grasses that move in the wind. We have enjoyed watching it mature from bare ground just six months ago.”
Vanessa Macnee concludes: “It’s interesting to see from both our survey and the competition that so many people place such a great emphasis on outdoor space. Each of our developments is carefully considered and in addition to that, we ensure green space is maximised as much as possible.
“It’s clear from this survey and from our own customer feedback that when people buy a new home, it’s not just the bricks and mortar that they buy, but the garden, the community and the development itself. “
