Biting start to New Year with launch of awards

The team behind Little Ankle Biters – a local website with reviews of days out and activities for children - is calling all parents and carers in Oxfordshire to nominate their favourite places to entertain the kids with the launch of the Little Ankle Biters’ Awards 2020.

Now in their third year, the awards are designed to help celebrate local businesses and charities that provide an outstanding service to families and carers by gaining the seal of approval from those who experience them most.

Kate Gregory, founder of Little Ankle Biters and editor for Oxfordshire, said: “The Little Ankle Biters’ Awards will spread the word to local families and reward businesses, charities or community led groups that deserve to be recognised.  Whether you have a favourite family friendly place to eat or have discovered an exceptional children’s activity class, 2020 could be their year to shine.”

Nominations are now open and the shortlist will be revealed Monday 3 February when voting commences to see who’s going to kick-start 2020 with a prestigious award win.

The ten categories are:

  • Best family friendly place to eat
  • Best family friendly pub
  • Best local museum
  • Best children’s party entertainer
  • Best family attraction
  • Best local theatre
  • Best soft play
  • Best children’s party venue
  • Best children’s sports club or class
  • Best children’s activity class

Rob Hill, owner of Rugby Tots (Bicester & Thame) and winner of Best Children’s Sports Club 2019, said:

"It was great to be recognised by all who nominated and voted for us.  I felt very proud to win the award for all of the hard work put in over the years and we gained a lot of publicity resulting in more enquiries.  I'd like to encourage Oxfordshire families to nominate their favourite kids places for the Little Ankle Biters' awards.  Just being nominated will mean so much to the business owner and will encourage them to keep delivering the service you and your kids have come to love."

Little Ankle Biters was established by former Vodafone colleagues, Kate Gregory (41) from Thame and Michelle Cairncross (40) from Maidenhead in 2017.  The idea was born out of the frustration of two mums with four children and two dogs between them, who got tired of trawling the Internet and social media to seek out places to take their kids.

The company now provides its service to families and carers in Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire via its website and social media channels with all content written by editors who are also local mums.

To nominate your favourite child friendly places in Oxfordshire for the Little Ankle Biters’ Awards 2020, visit:

oxon.ankle-biters.co.uk. Nominations close at midnight, Friday 31 January 2020. Voting will commence from Monday 3 February 2020 with winners announced in March 2020.
