CHINNOR RFC Thame is delighted to announce that Bertie Hopkin will remain as Club Captain for the 2021/22 season.
During a year like no other where the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the cancellation of the 2020/21 campaign, minimal training and three lockdowns, the 27-year-old has impressed in the role.
Bertie has played a crucial part in helping to drive our new vision, showing how much of an asset he is to our Club both on and off the pitch.
Among many responsibilities, he has taken the lead in ensuring a Senior Squad presence at Mini & Junior training, while he set up the virtual Chinnor Challenge in January which saw our members aged 5-65+ clocking more than 12,500km.
Bertie said: "I feel very privileged to remain Club Captain for the 2021/22 season. It has been a very challenging year, but this has given us time to strengthen our Club culture and ‘one club’ ethos, which has been embraced by everyone. We have made huge steps forward this year and it is only going to continue to grow, which is really exciting. We have a lot to look forward to and it finally feels like there is light at the end of this tunnel."
Chinnor RFC Thame Non-Executive Director, David Collard added: “The Board has been delighted at how Bertie has embraced the role of Club Captain during what has been an incredibly difficult year for everyone. Working alongside our Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe, he has been instrumental in leading the renewed ‘one club’ ethos, with a particular focus on bringing the Senior Squad closer to our Mini & Junior section.”
