On Sunday morning the Deputy Mayor Cllr Linda Emery wore her beanie hat to honour Megan Biddle's mantra of "Keep Calm and Wear A Hat" as she unveiled the memorial bench at Southern Road recreational ground and thanked all those who had been involved with the project. Megan's family together with over 100 friends and members of the community joined together in the sunshine to witness the unveiling and to see the bench finally take pride of place in the recreation ground.
Three years ago friends of Megan, led by Kieran Blanco, decided to raise the funds to provide a unique tribute to her and came up with the concept of a bespoke bench which was designed by Michael Gibbs. Cllr David Bretherton was asked by Megan's family to manage the next stage, working with the manufacturers Barricade Ltd and local builder Colin Cummins for the delivery and installation of the bench. David said "It has been an honour to be involved and when asked by Iain Biddle (Megan's father) to oversee the project it was the least I could do to help our dear friends who themselves have given so much to the community. Everyone has helped to make this a fitting tribute to a young girl taken too soon."
