Ever thought about joining Thame Freemasons Hampden Lodge?

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. It was founded on the three grand principles of brotherly love, relief and truth.

In 2017 Freemasonry celebrated the Tercentenary of the forming of the world`s first Grand Lodge, when four London Lodges met up. Today there is over 6.5 Million Freemasons worldwide.

Thame’s Hampden Lodge is a Freemasons lodge who meet five times a year, on a Friday, where they conduct various different ceremonies. In many ways these are like plays, with the aim of helping a member understand more about aspects of Freemasonry such as, morality, nature and science. Along with the ceremonies, they also work together to help local and National charities as well as enjoying a social aspect.

Hampden Lodge was officially created on the 12th of September 1946 and meets at Thame's Masonic Hall in the centre of the town. The lodge takes its name from John Hampden (ca. 1595 - 1643), and is part of the Masonic Province of Oxfordshire. Something which makes the Thame Freemasons unique is that when they meet, the partners and wives of the members of Hampden Lodge also arrange to meet up for a meal locally.

Interested in joining?

“We have a variety of members coming from many different backgrounds, spanning a wide age range. When we meet up, we always meet on the square and as equals. When you become a Freemason, you become a fellow brother within the Fraternity and as such are expected to show brotherly love, relief and truth at all times. Becoming a Freemason is an important milestone in any mans life. If you are interested in joining Hampden Lodge, we would welcome your interest with a warm response and be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Our fraternity has a wonderful history, which dates back more than three centuries. It is one of the world's oldest fraternities, a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values. Founded on the three great principles of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth, it aims to bring together men of goodwill, regardless of each individuals background.

The essential qualification for admission is that you have a belief in a Supreme Being. It is usual for candidates to be "mature men of 21 years and over", but in some circumstances candidates between the ages of 18 and 21 can be admitted.”
