Thame's Best Pub Burger - Review 1 - The James Figg

Thame Hub reviews are back and this time we’re reviewing Thame’s best pub burger. Our foodie will be ordering a burger from The James Figg, The Six Bells, The Black Horse and The Thatch.

To keep the review as fair as possible we will try to order the most basic beef burger on each menu.

The review will be based upon the best quality, taste, presentation, and also what is best value for money.

Let’s find out which pub will be crowned Thame’s Best Pub Burger.

So for the first review out of four we have sent our foodie to The James Figg.

“So after a short break from the takeaway reviews, I’m heading out to Thame’s drinking establishments to sample a burger off of their menu. I’d read in the news that the Head Chef at The James Figg made it to the finals of 2016 National Burger Awards, but I’ve no idea if he still works here, so I’m hoping for a treat!

Most pub’s usually have just one or two burgers on their menu but The James Figg has 5 different burgers ranging from £9.50 to £12.50. They have The Famous James Figg, Breaded chicken, Spicy bean, Sloppy Jim Steak with pulled pork and the Figg Mac.

But for the review I was under strict orders to get the most basic burger, and to keep the review fair that’s what I did. I ordered the The Famous James Figg burger, coming in at £10.50 and what I thought would be fairly reasonable for Thame’s pubs.

With the Famous James Figg burger, you get the choice of Cheddar, Stilton and Red Leicester to accompany your burger, so to keep things simple I ordered Cheddar. Not only that you also get the choice of thick or thin chips. So many options!! I decided on thin!

After ordering, my burger arrived around 15 minutes after and my first thoughts were that the presentation was excellent. The burger bun looked a lovely golden brown and was held in place by the burger stick. The chips even came in a little branded bag. Lovely!

Accompanying my golden bun and burger was lettuce, tomato, onion and burger sauce. This burger was very meaty and fitted the bun perfectly. Despite the golden look, the bun was soft and complemented the burger very well. I felt the burger was ever so slightly overdone but overall it was a really meaty burger and tasted like a good cut of meat. The lettuce and tomato tasted fresh and the burger sauce was just enough and not overpowering.

I was slightly disappointed with the chips as for all the lovely packaging they were slightly overdone. But overall this was a really strong start to the burger review and may take some beating. A fantastic burger and really well presented. £10.50 for a burger and chips in Thame…. I certainly can’t knock that.”

Stay tuned for the remaining three reviews to find out who will be crowned Thame’s best burger!
