You said we did’/ Priorities
Anti-social behaviour (ASB): Patrols of Thame town centre have continued as a priority for the neighbourhood team. The team have been engaging with young people in the areas where ASB has been an issue. The Thames Valley Police (TVP) mounted section have also patrolled the area to provide a high visibility presence and reassurance. The neighbourhood team will continue to patrol the Thame area and engage with the young people.
Hare Coursing: You said hare coursing was an issue around the Cuxham, Watlington and Britwell Salome areas. This has caused extensive damage to crops and private land. In response to this the neighbourhood team have taken part in a rural crime operation in conjunction with the rural crime team over the weekend of the 26-27th May. One male was arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal.
Offenders brought to justice
On the 1st of June 2016 a warrant was executed under section 23 of the misuse of drugs act at number 2 Baldon Lane in Marsh Baldon. Officers located a large quantity of mature cannabis plants in the premise with two males who were both arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis. Both males, Jordan Gray and Benjamin Hepburn from Oxford pleaded guilty at Oxford Crown court on the 22nd May 2017 and were both sentenced to two years imprisonment.
Theft of Land Rovers – crime reduction advice
There has been an increase in Land Rover thefts in South Oxfordshire. Sometimes the entire vehicle is taken and other times just parts are removed. Land Rover Defenders are targeted because of their ‘classic’ status since production was ceased in early 2016. Please follow the advice below to decrease the risk of being a victim:
• Fit a mechanical immobiliser such as a steering or pedal lock
• Fit an alarm for added security
• Fit a tracking device
• Thieves will target component parts so consider marking them using a forensic marking solution or system
• Keep the vehicle in a lockable garage/building or park in well-lit areas, which are overlooked
• Have the vehicle identification number etched on windows
• Consider fitting a hidden battery isolation or a fuel cut-off switch
• Take photographs of unusual features, modifications, damage or repairs which could aid identification if stolen
• Ensure any valuables are removed from the vehicle
Good News
Thame Store Net (system where the shops can speak to each other and the police) has saved just under £1000 worth of stock being stolen during shopliftings. The first batch of offenders have been placed on the Shop Watch scheme and are now banned from all shops involved. This has reduced the amount of calls for ASB and shopliftings from the town.
What the neighbourhood team have been doing
• On Monday the 8th of May PCSO Diane Jackson was in Waitrose in Thame signing shoppers up to Thames Valley Alerts and handing out free purse bells. Diane signed up ten new people to TVP alerts and issued over 20 purse bells.
• On the 10th and 25th of May the neighbourhood team conducted speed checks with roads policing in Garsington. 41 speeding vehicles received tickets and one vehicle was dealt with for having no insurance.
• On the 24th May PCSO Natalie White delivered a talk to parents at St Andrew’s School in Chinnor focused on keeping children safe online. 128 parents attended the event.
Future events/meetings
• On Wednesday 7th June, 10am – 11am, there will be a ‘Have Your Say’ meeting in Thame Costa Coffee so please come and talk about any local concerns.
• On the 10th June 2017 members of the Thame Neighbourhood team will be at the Thame carnival.
• On Friday the 16th of June PCSO Diane Jackson will be at the Co-op on Thame High Street between 16:00 and 17:00hrs for a have your say meeting.
• On Wednesday the 14th June PCSO Ryan Dollery will be at the Wheatley Merry Bells coffee morning for a have your say meeting.
