‘You said we did’/ Priorities
Drugs: You were concerned about the open use of cannabis smoking in the Southern Road recreation ground, phoenix trail and nature reserve. Drug taking and dealing in Thame as a location is a current priority for the local police area and additional officers and patrols are being carried out to disrupt this behaviour.
Littering: We also received reports of littering in Southern Road recreation ground. An offender of littering kindly left behind some identification with their empty alcohol box and cans and they have received a fixed penalty notice fine for their inconsiderate littering.
Parking: We received reports of cars parking on the double yellow lines in Victoria Mead, Thame. This area is being monitored closely when operational commitments allow. We have issued fixed penalty notices to those vehicles found to be in breach of traffic regulations. We will continue to monitor this on our patrols, along with other roads in Thame such as Chinnor Road and Queens Road.
Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
The neighbourhood team have received complaints regarding ASB involving groups of young people around Thame. The team have been proactively patrolling the town centre and surrounding areas and we have put in place additional support from other neighbourhood teams to show a presence. We have had in place dispersal orders which have assisted us remove young people who are causing ASB away from the area. This is ongoing at this time and remains a priority for the NHPT and local officers to disrupt this behaviour.
Offenders brought to justice
Oliver Joy of no fixed above in Wheatley has been sentenced to 41 months imprisonment for assault on police, threats to kill, burglary and harassment.
Crime prevention advice
There has again been a slight increase of thefts from motor vehicles across Oxfordshire. Please be vigilant, ensure your vehicle is locked when unattended, remove tools and valuable goods from vehicles overnight. Keep vehicles in garages if possible or park in busy well-lit areas and use alarms if you have them!
It is also the time of year when we generally see an increase in thefts from vehicles left at beauty spot car parks during the warmer weather. If you are visiting our local beauty spots please follow the following advice:
• Don't take any valuables with you to the location, leave them at home!
• If you have to take a handbag, purse, wallet, etc then take it on the walk with you. Do not leave it in your vehicle.
• Remove any electrical equipment from your car, including sat navs, mobile phones, ipads. Again if you don't need it, then please leave it at home.
• Do not hide bags or valuables in your car. They are not safe under seats, hidden under clothing or even in the boot of the car.
• Don't leave clothing across seats or any shopping bags out. It can give the appearance that valuables are hidden underneath
• Don't hide items when you get there or move them to your boot. Someone could be watching you hide all of it and will break in when you have gone for a walk.
• Lock the doors to your car and set the alarm.
• Report any suspicious vehicles, people or activity on 101.
The NHPT are patrolling these areas and will be carrying out some more crime prevention events over the next month where we knock on doors with crime prevention advice.
What the neighbourhood team have been doing
During April the neighbourhood team took park in a speed check operation between Chalgrove and Stadhampton following a number of reports of speeding from the local community. This operation was completed in conjunction with Thames Valley Police Roads Policing department. 57 speeding motorists were caught and dealt with during the morning operation.
On 19th of April the neighbourhood team carried out a crime prevention event in Chinnor. The team visited around 60 houses handing out crime prevention packs which contained information on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
On 26th April, the Neighbourhood team held a community café for local residents of Thame, Wheatley, Chinnor, Watlington and all surrounding villages to come along and work through some local common problems together. We used this opportunity to engage with the local residents, find out some concerns and work through a solution of how to solve these problems. We will be publishing results and updates from the café in due course. Thank you to the local residents who took the time to come and speak to us.
On 30th April, Thame town hosted “Music in the park” in Elms Park in Thame. This was patrolled and attended by the NHPT. The event went to plan with no issues raised.
Future events/meetings
• PCSO Diane Jackson will be in Waitrose in Thame on Friday the 26th May between 4pm – 6pm offering free purse bells and sign-ups to the Thames Valley alert systems.
• PCSO Ryan Dollery will be at the Wheatley Merry Bells coffee morning on Tuesday the 16th May 11am – midday, offering crime prevention advice.
• PCSO Diane Jackson will be in the Thame CO-OP between 4pm – 5pm on Friday the 19th May handing out crime prevention advice and to discuss and local issues or concerns.
