South Oxfordshire District Council is investing £353,000 in new facilities which will include new bench seating, new lockers, toilets, dryers, and new ceilings with LED lighting.
Work on the changing area could potentially start as soon as Monday, April 3, and will take around 14 weeks to complete. During this time the swimming pool and all other facilities will remain open with a temporary changing area available pool side.
Cllr Anna Badcock, Cabinet Member for Leisure at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “The refurbished area will provide a much better environment for people at Thame Leisure Centre before and after they swim. This investment is part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best leisure facilities for all our residents across South Oxfordshire.”
The main improvements will be as follows;
- New changing cubicles, lockers and sanitary ware
- Upgraded vanity area with new fixtures and fittings (including new benching)
- Removal of the showers and wall between the changing area and main pool which will offer better access to the pool and the newly configured layout will allow staff greater visibility of the area promoting a safer environment.
- New pre-cleanse showers will be located just inside the changing rooms to the right hand side on leaving the pool – we will also be adding an additional 3 shower units to help at peak times
- Extra showers with individual lockable cubicles will be created within the changing rooms which will negate the need for male / female only shower areas
- New suspended ceilings will run throughout the changing area and will have energy efficient LED lights fitted which in turn will have a great impact on the leisure centres carbon footprint.
Temporary changing rooms will be provided for the duration of the work, which we anticipate will take up to 14 weeks. Please bear with us during this time as it is inevitable that there will be some disruption.
