20th October 2026
Chinnor RFC is celebrating the growth of its girls’ section with a “Bring a Mum and a Friend” touch rugby festival on Sunday 25 October 2026, from 2–4pm.
With more than 100 girls now playing at the club, the festival will mark the section’s relaunch and bring together players from across its age groups. Mums and friends are invited to join them on the pitch for an afternoon of touch rugby, friendship and celebration.
The event is also designed to introduce more girls to rugby. Friends who have never played before will have an opportunity to experience the sport alongside familiar faces, while families can discover the club and the opportunities it offers.
A pathway from first games to senior rugby
Chinnor’s playing pathway runs from Under-10s through to the Kites senior women’s first team. It gives younger girls a route to continue in the sport as they grow older, with senior women’s rugby forming the next stage beyond the junior section.
The relaunch is an opportunity to make that pathway more visible to local families. Alongside celebrating the players already involved, the club wants the afternoon to encourage more girls to take their first steps in rugby and feel part of its community.
A dedicated committee supporting the next chapter
A new, dedicated girls’ committee, chaired by Lisa Ranieri, is helping to shape the section’s future and support its continued growth. The festival brings that ambition onto the pitch, giving existing players a chance to share their sport with the people closest to them.
“More than 100 girls now play at Chinnor, and this relaunch is about celebrating them while opening the door to more families. We want girls to know there is a place for them here, whether they are picking up a rugby ball for the first time or looking ahead to playing for the Kites”, commented Lisa Ranieri.
“Bringing a mum and a friend is a simple way to share what makes rugby special. We hope the afternoon will give more girls the confidence to have a go, make new friends and see themselves as part of the club. With our dedicated committee and a pathway from Under-10s to senior women’s rugby, we want to build on this enthusiasm and help the section keep growing.”
An afternoon for players and families
The festival will centre on friendly touch rugby games, with girls from across the section joined by mums and friends. The emphasis is on taking part and enjoying the afternoon together, with the event offering a welcoming introduction for newcomers as well as a celebration for current players.
There will be food for players and prizes, followed by an opportunity to socialise in the clubhouse bar. The afternoon is intended to strengthen connections between players and families as well as encourage new interest in the girls’ section.
Building on the wider club’s achievements
The girls’ section relaunch comes within a club whose men’s first team competes in Champ Rugby, the second tier of English rugby, immediately below the Premiership.
“The girls’ section is an important part of Chinnor’s future. We are proud to support it with its own dedicated committee and a clear pathway from Under-10s to our senior women’s side, and we want every girl who joins to know she has a place at this club”, said Nick Stainton, Club Chair.
Chinnor was also named UK Rugby Club of the Season 2023/24 by Rugby Club Magazine. Through events such as the “Bring a Mum and a Friend” festival, the club aims to turn the celebration of its current players into an invitation for more girls and families to get involved.
