Thame Neighbourhood Policing Team says begging and theft offences have reduced, while work continues to tackle anti-social behaviour and retail crime in the town centre.
The Thame Neighbourhood Policing Team has provided an update on its latest priorities, including retail crime, theft from vehicles and anti-social behaviour in Thame town centre.
Begging and anti-social behaviour
Police say begging in Thame town centre has been “vastly reduced” following joint work with Thame Town Council.
Officers have been using Anti-Social Behaviour powers, including Community Protection Warnings and Acceptable Behaviour Contracts, to tackle persistent issues.
The team has also been working with Roads Policing colleagues to address the anti-social use of off-road motorbikes and quad bikes under Operation Turbo.
Theft from vehicles
Police have also reported a significant reduction in thefts from vehicles, including offences at the Junction 8A Services on the M40.
The primary suspects connected to the series of offences remain on bail while officers from the Priority Crime Team continue their investigation.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team says joint work with the services, particularly through the use of CCTV, has helped to significantly reduce offending.
Local theft-from-vehicle offences in Thame have also fallen following police work earlier this year relating to a local offender.
Shopwatch scheme to return
There has been a delay in relaunching Shopwatch in Thame due to technical difficulties.
Police say the town's new PCSOs will launch the scheme once those issues have been resolved, working alongside Thame Town Council and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
The aim is to improve communication between Thame's retailers and policing teams and provide a better service to local businesses.
Officers are also currently investigating one offender suspected of a public order offence and three local shoplifting offences.
Police say they are confident the offender will be brought to justice.
The latest update was actioned on 18 August 2026, with the priorities originally issued on 1 July.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team says it will continue working with local partners and businesses to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour across Thame.
