Week 16 and the 1st XI welcomed Stoke Green to Church Meadow in a mid-table clash. The visitors chose to bat and did so at a quick rate! Jonathon Jelfs (3-85) was the pick of the bowlers, but it was Madusanka ‘s 138 from just 54 balls that set up a huge 370-5. Evan Cowley (44) and Shahbaz Meer (41) laid foundations, before Alex Browne smashed 104 from 97 balls, supported by Ubaid Kiani (58). However the required rate was always too high, and the innings ended on 305-7. Now 6th, bottom side Chesham await the 1s away next.
Thame 2nd XI travelled to Wolverton and were put into bat. George Patey (35) and Harry Thomas (34) built from the top, but a flurry of wickets took away momentum, before Muhammed Amin (29*) led a mid-lower order push up to 194-8. Wolverton were in charge at 117-3, when spinners Jeremy Batty (4-38) and Amin (2-30) put victory in sight at 153-9. Guttingly, Thame again struggled to finish off the tail and lost by 1 wicket. The 2s slip to 8th and, not safe from the drop, host 4th Aston Rowant 3 next.
At Lord Williams’ School, the 3rds looked to continue incredible form and outside promotion hopes against leaders Oxenford 3. After being put into bat, Mukil Kamal opened with 26, before a collapse to 97 all out. Oxenford were able to reach the target for the loss of 3 wickets – young Dan Tilley impressed with 1-2 from 5 overs. The defeat ends a 2 month undefeated run and makes promotion difficult – placed 4th, the 3s go to 6th Wolvercote 4 next.
A 10-player 4th XI went to Waddesdon 3 and were put into bat. Charlie Anderson opened with 41 and Ollie Rawlings hit 25 at 3, as all batters chipped in to make 176-6. Trevor Spindler (4-17) starred with the ball again, taking out the top 4 cheaply. Chris ‘Winkle’ Penny took 2-24 and each of the other bowlers took a wicket apiece in a brilliant team effort, to have Waddesdon all out for 101! Top with 2 games to go, the 4s are 50 points ahead of 4th place and almost officially promoted! The side host 7th Haddenham 2 next.
At Church Meadow on Sunday, Thame Women took on league leaders Charlbury, who chose to bat first. An unbeaten 191 from Bolam led a strong Charlbury side to 396-3 from the 40 overs – Harshi Wijerathna took 2-29. Wijerathna‘s 84 at the top of the order was the best effort for Thame in 131 all out. 7th and safe from relegation, the team have a hundred match on Friday at Warborough & Shillingford, with 3rd-place Moreton visiting on Sunday in the penultimate league fixture.
