Freddie van Mierlo, Liberal Democrat MP for Henley and Thame, has urged LINK to review the need for a banking hub in Thame following news the arms-length body has determined Henley needs one.
LINK shared news on Wednesday 15th July that Henley is set to receive a temporary banking hub within the next 12 weeks, with a permanent one to follow. Following a reassessment, Henley qualified based on the number of businesses in the town that use cash.
Given the similarities between the two towns of the constituency, the MP is now challenging LINK why Thame risks being left behind.

“I’ve been asking for banking hubs for both Henley-on-Thames and Thame for some time. Both have seen banks exit the towns in rapid order and are market towns with businesses and residents requiring reliable cash deposit and withdrawal”
“While I’m delighted for Henley, I don’t think it’s fair that the other major town in my constituency has only been given a clunky deposit machine to date. Businesses in Thame need a place to deposit cash and carry out basic banking functions, rather than schlepping to Aylesbury”
“I’m reaching out to the Town Council, who have been very active in advocating for Thame to coordinate our next steps and efforts”
