29th May 2026
On Friday 22 May 2026, the Deputy Mayor Cllr Andy Wainwright joined with the residents of Thame , Thame Town Council and the Royal British Legion at the Memorial Gardens to commemorate the service and sacrifice of the British Armed Forces during Operation TELIC.
Two wreaths were laid in remembrance — one on behalf of the Town Council and one from the Thame Royal British Legion — honouring those who served and the 179 British service personnel who lost their lives.
While the conflict and its legacy have been widely discussed over the years, today’s gathering focused on remembering the courage, professionalism and dedication shown by all those who served in Iraq from 2003 onwards, often under extremely difficult and dangerous conditions.
Prayers and blessings were performed by Rev, Graham Choldcroft remembering those wounded in body or mind, and the families whose lives were forever changed by their service.
Together, the community stood in remembrance, respect and gratitude for their unwavering commitment and sacrifice.
