5th March 2026
Following the approval from Oxfordshire County Council on 26th February, Nelson Street is being made one-way, northbound from its junction with Southern Road to the Fire Station, in the interest of the safety of the residents on the street as well as drivers due to the conflict between oncoming vehicles and insufficient space to safely pass. Cyclists will still be permitted to travel southbound against the traffic to maintain a comprehensive cycling network (and as identified in the Thame LCWIP). The scheme is going to be monitored, with a consultation going live soon for residents to respond to tell OCC how it's going ahead of another meeting to recommend whether the Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) is to be made permanent, if it should be permanent subject to any changes, or if it should revert back to the original arrangement.
The ETRO will be live for 18 months, but OCC will monitor for up to 12 months to capture year-round usage, a decision will be made about whether the change is made permanent or not within 18 months.
