Second Series of Free Playwriting Workshops Announced with Acclaimed Actor Bruce Alexander

4th November 2025

Following the success of a previous set of workshops in September, The Thame Players have announced a second series of free playwriting workshops led by renowned actor Bruce Alexander.

The new series, titled “Pick a Playwright”, invites adults (aged 18 and over) to explore the works of three celebrated British playwrights, Harold Pinter, Caryl Churchill, and Joe Orton through interactive evening sessions.

The workshops will take place on consecutive Mondays in January at 6:30–8:00 p.m., with each session dedicated to a different playwright:

  • Harold Pinter – Monday, 12 January
  • Caryl Churchill – Monday, 19 January
  • Joe Orton – Monday, 26 January

Hosted by Bruce Alexander, best known for his extensive work on stage and screen, the sessions aim to give participants a deeper understanding of dramatic writing and performance.

The initiative is supported by a grant from the Performing Arts Fund of South Oxfordshire District Council, reflecting a continued commitment to making theatre and the performing arts accessible to the local community.

We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
