Thames Valley Police have issued an alert after a series of distraction burglaries across Oxfordshire and Berkshire – including two incidents in Thame.
The incidents took place over the weekend of Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, when two women were reported knocking on doors in Oxford, Reading, and Thame.
In Thame, homes on Greyhound Lane and Yeats Lodge were targeted. Similar reports also came from Emmer Green and Tilehurst in Reading, and Vicarage Road in Oxford.
According to police, the women offered massages claiming they could ease back, knee, and leg pain – specifically approaching elderly, disabled, and vulnerable residents. While one carried out the massage, the other searched the property. Jewellery, cash, and even a Rolex watch have been reported stolen.
Detective Constable Abbie Biddlecombe, who is leading the investigation, said:
“We are urging residents to remain vigilant, particularly when answering the door to unexpected visitors. Distraction burglaries often involve offenders posing as officials or tradespeople to gain access to your home. Always ask for identification and check it with the company before letting someone into your home.”
The suspects are described as women in their mid-twenties with tanned skin. A black Vauxhall Zafira has also been linked to the incidents.
DC Biddlecombe added:
“If you’re unsure, don’t open the door and report any suspicious behaviour to us immediately on 101.”
Police are asking anyone with information about the burglaries, or who may have seen the women or the vehicle in the area, to come forward.
