Thame Police Target Shoplifting, Drugs, and Anti-Social Behaviour in Latest Community Update

17th September 2025

Thame’s Neighbourhood Policing Team has outlined a series of actions taken this summer to tackle crime and community concerns across the town, working in partnership with local councils, businesses, and the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Boost for ShopWatch Radio and New Crime-Sharing System
Retail premises in Thame are set to benefit from an upgraded ShopWatch Radio system after funding was secured by Thames Valley Police, Thame Town Council, and the Community Safety Partnership. New aerial hardware is being installed, with plans to relaunch the scheme soon.

In addition, PCSO Keogh has worked with the Police and Crime Commissioner’s office to introduce the DISC system, allowing shops to share images and intelligence about shoplifters with each other and the police. The team also secured three charges against a man following offences in a Chinnor shop.

Crackdown on Drug Activity in Elms Park
Elms Park remains a priority location for tackling drug dealing and misuse, with regular hotspot patrols continuing. During the national County Lines Intensification Week, officers carried out two drug warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Four suspects were arrested in connection with 31 offences and remain on bail pending further action.

Addressing Anti-Social Behaviour in the Town Centre
Thame Town Centre continues to be patrolled by officers as part of a designated hotspot area. A young person has recently been charged with criminal damage, while another young man is being dealt with for a number of offences committed across the town and its parks.

Looking ahead, police are working with Thame Town Council to prepare for large events, including Thame Fair. Dedicated officers will be on duty every night of the fair, supported by private security arranged by the council, to ensure the event runs smoothly and safely.

You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
