Police Step Up Action on Shoplifting, Drugs, and Anti-Social Behaviour in Thame

Thame’s Neighbourhood Policing Team has taken a series of measures to tackle persistent shoplifting, drug activity, and anti-social behaviour in the town. Working with local councils, the Police and Crime Commissioner, and community partners, officers have boosted surveillance systems, secured arrests and charges, and increased patrols in known trouble spots, aiming to make the town centre and parks safer for residents and businesses. Shoplifting offences are occurring on a regular basis in Thame Town Centre and other retail premises within the town boundaries.

Action taken:

Thame Neighbourhood Team have worked together with the Police and Crime Commissioner, Thame Town Council and the Community Safety Partnership at the District Council to fund a new aerial in order to enhance ShopWatch Radio capability in the town. Hardware is being installed and we hope to relaunch the scheme with the help of Thame Town Council in the near future.

PCSO Keogh has worked with the PCC's office in order to launch the DISC system with retail premises, enabling them to share images and information about shopliftings with each other and the police.

The team have secured 3 charges against a male for offences in a shop in Chinnor.

Drug dealing and drug use in Elms Park, Thame

Elms Park continues to be covered by our Hotspot patrolling, meaning officers are regularly on foot beat in the area, stop searching and disrupting offending.

As part of County Lines Intensification Week the Neighbourhood Team conducted two warrants under s.23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, resulting in the arrest of 4 suspects for a total of 31 offences. The suspects remain on bail prior to any charges being brought.

Anti-Social Behaviour in Thame Town Centre

The Neighbourhood Team conduct regular foot patrols of Thame Town Centre which houses a Hotspot Patrol area.

A young person was charged with criminal damage in the town recently following an investigation by the team.

Planning is underway to combat ASB that might occur in the summer and autumns events including Thame Fair. Dedicated officers will patrol all nights of the Fair and are in close liaison with the Town Council who also allocate private security to the event.

A young man is being dealt with by the team for a number of offences committed across the town and parks.
