19th June 2025
A stirring evening of music and remembrance is set to take place on Saturday, 5 July 2025, as RAF Halton and the RAF Voluntary Band join forces for a commemorative VJ Day Concert at St Mary’s Church, Thame. The performance will mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day, a pivotal moment in World War II history.
The concert, which runs from 7pm to 9pm, is free to attend and will feature a rich programme of music, ranging from original compositions to classic WWII-era songs. Organisers aim to honour those who served and sacrificed in the Far East during the final stages of the Second World War.
In partnership with Thame Town Council and in aid of the Thame branch of the Royal British Legion, the event will include a retiring collection to support veterans and their families. The band’s appearance has been made possible with the kind permission of the Station Commander at RAF Halton.
The community is encouraged to attend this poignant and patriotic evening, which promises to blend musical excellence with heartfelt tribute.
