The idea is to match amazing amateur repairers with people who need stuff fixed and all for FREE. The Repair Cafe will be a learning experience to help everyone get more confident on fixing things at home.

Bring your small electrical, mechanical, household items and textiles and learn how to repair them.

Bring along items small enough for one person to carry
(and if it is a digital device please back up your data)

The event is run by volunteers and anyone can pop in. As well as repairs you can drop in and purchase a cuppa and homemade cake. The repairs are free but donations towards costs will be gratefully received.

We are a very friendly, sociable bunch so please do come along if you need anything repaired, have skills to share or just fancy some company while you do some repairs of your own. Or you can just sit, chat and enjoy a cuppa.

The repairers are good and can fix many things but there are no guarantees.

Repair Cafés are free community events where skilled volunteers help people fix their own items to save them from going to waste. The focus is on skill-sharing and an enjoyable ongoing learning process.

Knowing how to fix things is a skill quickly being lost to our modern society and with a Repair Café invaluable practical knowledge is passed on. Items are being used for longer and don’t have to be thrown away. This reduces the volume of raw materials and energy needed to make new items. It cuts CO2 emissions for example, because manufacturing new products and recycling old ones causes CO2 to be released.

The first Thame Repair Cafe is being funded by 21st Century Thame supported with kind sponsorship of Lightfoots Solicitors who have recently committed £2500 towards the projects of the partnership between 21st Century Thame and Thame Green Living to further the actions of the Thame Green Living Plan.

The Repair Cafe has now secured funding from Thame Town Council to ensure that it can be run for the rest of the year – every two months.

Repair Café is an international movement that encourages people to think about re-using and repairing items rather than throwing them away.

The Café helps the community to continue using and enjoying items they love. It also develops skills, reduces waste and CO2 emissions, and encourages a sustainable community.
