The #ThameTrees team have been planting trees and plotting new tree projects and have lots of new things planned that you might want to get involved in.
Our aim is to plant as many trees as we can in each planting season. Ideally we want to be planting out new trees that have been nurtured locally. Self seeded saplings, hardwood cuttings, seeds from local trees are
1. Care for the newly planted trees on public land - this will be ongoing throughout the next 2 years
2. Supply and plant trees on private land - contact [email protected] to join the team invited to plant - this could be happening any time as soon as the weather warms
3. Learn the history of Cuttlebrook Nature Reserve - a walk around Cuttlebrook - meet at 10am at Scout Hut Car Park Saturday 4th February 2023 - Did you know that the Cuttlebrook Nature Reserve was industrial land only 30 years ago - with no trees ! I've lived in Thame for over 20 years and I didn't realise that it didn't always look how it does today. This walk will be lead by someone who was there at the beginning. 4. Hard wood cuttings and nurturing - we will be arranging a training session early in 2023 on how to take hard wood cuttings - we would love to get at least 500 hard wood cuttings in to pots or in some nursery ground by the end of this season - ready to be planted in our growing private and public woods in a few years time
5. Tree seed harvesting and nurturing - we will be arranging a training session on how to harvest tree seeds and prepare them for planting in pots - again another 500 seeds is our target - with the same aims of planting out in a few years time
