Gardens and other green spaces add a great deal of wildlife value to the area – more plants, more shelter, more variety. Laying out your gardens with banks of flowers, compost heaps and a pond will help increase the wildlife’s reach beyond our Cuttlebrook nature reserve. Other ways to help include using UK native trees and flowers, putting up bird boxes and leaving untidy corners where mini-beasts can lurk. Piles of air bricks or logs make perfect bug hotels. Make hedgehog highways by putting holes in the bottom of fences to join up gardens. Create your own miniature nature reserve. Garden birds, frogs, newts, butterflies bees and bats are just some of the examples of wildlife you can help in this way.
