Latest vaccine news from Rycote Practice

At the time of writing nearly 92.4% of eligible patients at The Rycote Practice have had a first Covid vaccination and 71.1% of patients are now fully immunised. This compares to 85.1% and 63.5% nationally (data from NHS England week ending 4.7.21). We have also offered hundreds of vaccines to others (who are not patients of The Rycote Practice).

Uptake rates are around 95% and above for patients over 50 (89% for 40 – 49yr olds, 81% for 30-39 yr olds and 75% for 18-29 yr olds). If you have not yet had the Covid vaccine we would strongly encourage you to book in – this will protect others (who may be more vulnerable) as well as you. You can book with us by calling 01844 267935 or at another vaccination site via https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

In the coming weeks we will be focussing on offering second dose Covid vaccinations on or around 8 weeks.  We will provide clinic details on our website and on Facebook once vaccine deliveries are confirmed.

If you book to have a vaccination with us please, please, please keep your appointment – in the past few clinics we have had DNA (did not attend) rates of up to 20%. Pfizer comes in 6 doses a vial and AZ generally in 9 doses a vial so we have to administer multiples of these numbers to avoid wastage once we have removed them from the fridge. Failure to do so can mean that we risk wasting vaccines as we have a limited period of time to use them. So far we have managed to not waste a single dose but in some clinics this has involved staff working several hours beyond the finish time to ensure that we can find patients to offer unused vaccines to.

Infection rates continue to rise locally. Please continue to get the jab, wear a mask and socially distance where appropriate. This will help to protect you and those who may be at greater risk as well as easing pressures on the NHS. Stay safe. Protect the NHS . Save lives.
