Midsomer Murders Star Coming To Thame

On Saturday 17th July, The Players Theatre, newly re-opened following Covid lockdowns, will host a Midsomer extravaganza, The Magic of Midsomer, which is sure to appeal to Midsomer fans far and wide!  The Players Theatre is now able to live stream shows, which means you will be able to experience this Midsomer feast either in the auditorium or from your own sofa, whether you’re in Oxfordshire, in Germany, or as far away as Australia!

The star of the show will be Jane Wymark, who played Joyce Barnaby, long-suffering wife of DCI Tom Barnaby, in the first 81 episodes of Midsomer Murders, until the cast changed in 2011. Jane will be giving a talk about her experiences in this highly popular show, as well as about her career generally.  She will be ably supported by Tony Long, organiser of Thame Midsomer Tours, and the author of a new book, A Midsomer Day Out, will give an illustrated talk on the origins of the show and how it has developed over nearly 25 years, highlighting locations where filming has taken place in and around Thame, punctuated with amusing anecdotes.

To mark this very special occasion for Midsomer fans, Thame Players are offering everyone who comes to see the show a free glass of prosecco!  The audience will not only be entertained with tales of Midsomer, they will also be able to celebrate the continuing popularity of this long-running TV series. Midsomer Murders isglobally acclaimed as a TV phenomenon, which has been running since 1997 and is still going strong – with 128 episodes screened to date. It’s estimated that one billion people around the world have seen Midsomer Murders and it has been viewed in over 200 countries.

Thame is one of the most-filmed Midsomer locations, sometimes appearing as Causton, sometimes as one of the many picturesque villages in Midsomer County (aka Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire). Midsomer Tours of Thame was established by Tony Long in 2017, recognizing the interest in Thame as a Midsomer destination. The tours are led by a team of seven knowledgeable guides (all volunteers) who are enthusiastic experts, not only on Midsomer Murders locations, the different episodes, the actors, the bizarre methods of murder and much more, but on local history too. More than 1,000 people have taken the Midsomer Tour of Thame to date, and two thirds of tour income is donated to local charities.

And if you can’t get to the show itself, it will be live-streamed to the world.
