Thefts from motor vehicles
We have had an increasing number of thefts from motor vehicles around the Cowlease Woods, Aston Rowant and Hill Top Watlington rural carparks. This is one of our top priorities and we have been putting an increasing number of patrols on these areas, ensuring we either have PCSOs or police officers circling the areas every day and passing crime prevention advice to members of the public.
Advice: Please do not leave valuables on view and be especially mindful when parking in remote locations or busy areas that there is a possibility that you may be being observed whilst you place all your items of value in the boot of your vehicle.
• Always ensure that items of value are not left on display.
• Try and place any valuable items in the boot before reaching your destination or take them with you.
• Do not leave electronic devices in sleep mode or on standby in your vehicle. They can be detected!
• Be mindful that you could be being watched.
• Ensure that your vehicle is actually locked by trying the door handles. Key fob blockers are available online.
• Be vigilant and report any suspicious people or vehicles by calling 101.
Witness appeal
A silver Peugeot, believed to be a 206, has been seen at the scene of some of our theft from motor vehicles around the rural carparks, including Cowlease Woods, Aston Rowant and Hill Top Watlington. If anyone has information please ring 101.
Offenders brought to justice
• A 26 year old male from Thame has been sentenced to prison for twelve weeks for possession of cocaine, failing to stop at a road traffic collision, having no insurance and driving without due care and attention. This male was also disqualified from driving.
• A thirty eight year old male from Thame was arrested on 07/04/18 by the Thame neighbourhood team on suspicion of drug driving. The male was then arrested on 23/07/18 for driving with excess alcohol and no insurance. He was suspended from driving for four years and fined £150.
Home security advice:
Burglaries are still being reported in our area. There are simple crime prevention tips to keep your property safe;
• Lock all front and rear doors and windows at night and when you are out.
• Keep all valuables and keys, including car keys, out of sight and out of reach of windows and letterboxes. Double check your vehicle is locked too.
• Ensure side gates are locked to prevent access to the rear of your property. Move bins away from side walls and fences.
• Keep ladders and tools stored away. Don’t leave them outside where they could be used to break into your home.
Are you going on holiday?
• Please do not advertise that you are going away on social media – wait until you get home to upload your holiday snaps!
• Check that your home insurance policy, as some may pay out less or not at all, if you have posted that you are away on social media.
• Use a timer switch to make your house look occupied, even when it isn’t.
• Ask someone you trust to keep an eye on your house while you are away.
• Don’t leave spare keys in obvious places such as under doormats and plant pots.

Staff news
This month we have welcomed a brand new PCSO to Thame, PCSO Maciej Stempniowski. We have also welcomed back PCSO Natalie White, she is now back from maternity leave and will be working from 9am – 6pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. From the 01/10/18 we will also be welcoming back PCSO Graham Davey who will be in Chinnor again, so our numbers in Thame are on the rise!

Did you know that you can now get in touch with us online as well as by calling 101? Please visit www.thamesvalley.police.uk where you can:
• Provide more information or request an update on a crime report
• Tell us if you recognise a face or description from one of our witness appeals
• Contact an officer or department directly, for example our Fixed Penalty Support Unit. This also helps you reach an officer or PCSO who may be working unsociable hours.
You can also use our new online reporting form on our Website to report any type of crime, traffic collisions involving an injury, a missing person and anti-social behaviour. If you click on the REPORT link it opens up a form which takes you through all the questions that you would be asked if you called 101 and is picked up by our dedicated team in the Contact Centre.
Knife surrender bin at Abingdon Police Station
Operation Sceptre is a campaign to raise awareness of knife crime that is running from the 18th – 25th September. Thames Valley Police will be visiting some of the schools in the area to talk to the children about the dangers of knives. We are placing a surrender bin at the front counter at Abingdon police station during this week where you can safely dispose of any unwanted knives.
