Into the second week of Saturday league action and our 1st XI travelled to Gerrards Cross, where the hosts chose to bat first. Dinny Malan (3-39) returned the best figures, with Devane Warner and Captain Hassam Mushtaq also taking 3 wickets apiece in 262 all out. Thame lost 2 early wickets in the chase, but opener Adam Ali (74) stood strong in partnership with Lloyd Paternott (79), who was forced to retire before coming back at the end to help Thame to an impressive 3 wicket win, with over 4 overs to spare. After a first league win, the 1s host Falkland next.
The 2s hosted Bletchley Town at Church Meadow, and were put into bat. Alex Browne was the star of the show smashing 141 from 70 balls, including 11 sixes. Strong partnerships in the middle order with James McStay (50*) and Hugh Pilkington (50) set a big target at 304-6. Pete Tervet (4-30) took out the top order, and from there the visitors never looked like threatening. Browne (4-23) continued his brilliant day to lead Thame to the win by 96 runs. The team travel to local rivals Aston Rowant 3 next.
Thame 3rds took on Buckingham Town 4 at Lord Williams’ School. Thame chose to bowl. Nick Humphries (2-26) and first senior wickets for juniors Benjamin Batty (2-34) and Sam Holmes had Buckingham 150 all out. After a stuttery start, the in-form Guy Holmes hit 64* to lead Thame to a comfortable 6 wicket win. The 3s head down the road to Tiddington 3 on Saturday.
The 4th XI were away at Long Marston 3 and were put into bat. Charlie Anderson (60) opened with youngster Alex Fuller (53), who scored his first senior half century. Thame posted 180-4 from the 40 overs. Trevor Spindler (4-9) bowled superbly, as Long Marston lost wickets while managing to keep up with the rate. The hosts scraped over the line in the final over by 2 wickets. It’s Great Brickhill 4 at home next for the 4s.
Thame Women headed away to Stony Stratford and chose to bowl. Zara Wyatt took 3-31, but 146 from Parry put Stony Stratford on top. Caitlin Shaw came on later to take 4-31 in 302 all out. Thame were struggling at 36-3 in the chase. Megs Woodward (42) provided the best effort, but could not prevent a loss by 144 runs. Looking for a first league win this season, the team go to Moreton next.
On Bank Holiday Monday, Church Meadow will host Oxfordshire v Surrey in a T20 match! With lineups to be announced yet, we can expect to see some familiar pro names in the Surrey lineup!
