All 3 games washed out on Saturday 22nd
Thame 1st XI v Amersham 1st XI, Bletchley 1st XI v Thame 2nd XI and Cropredy 3rd XI v Thame 3rd XI all fell victim to the heavy downpours last Saturday afternoon. The 1st XI were going well at 72-1 after 15 overs, the 2nds were also batting and were 63-3, while the 3rds were putting Cropredy under real pressure with good bowling at 47-4. All teams earn points for abandoned matches. The 1sts travel to struggling Great Brickhill this Saturday, the 2nds entertain leaders Minster Lovell 1sts at Church Meadow and the 3rds play Tiddington at Lord Bills’s Upper School.
1sts win T20 to move up to 2nd in group
A young 1st XI travelled to Oxford and Bletchingdon on Tuesday 18th. Thame’s bowlers kept it tight throughout the O&B innings, with good figures from Chris Jeffcock (4-13 in 4 overs), Dan Patey (1-9 in 3 overs) and overseas pro Gamindu Kanishka (2-1 in 2 overs). This meant that O&B set Thame a target of 126. The inadequacy of that total soon became obvious as Kanishka (63*) and Russell (56*) ensured Thame cruised to their target, winning by 10 wickets. Thame sit 2nd in their group after this match, and now play Oxford this week.
“All Stars” initiative a huge success at Thame CC
The hunt for the future stars of the game has been going on at Thame Town Cricket Club, since the end of May. The brand-new, ECB-inspired programme – ‘All Stars Cricket’ – has been taking place at Church Meadow on Friday nights. The future stars, aged 5-8, girls and boys, have been flooding in with their personalised kit bags, shirts, bats and balls and have been learning the basic arts of batting, bowling and fielding, all in a fun and engaging way ! The initiative, which we hope will continue next year, has provided thousands of children, in cricket clubs across the country, with the opportunity to learn about cricket, meet new friends and catch the cricket “bug”. All Stars Cricket is not only a fun first-experience of cricket, but it also gets children more active and provides the first steps on the national cricket “pathway”. Thame CC has benefited from a wider network of people getting involved with the club, not just through the kids - anything up to 42 girls and boys on certain weeks, with 6 trained coaches in attendance - but through parents as well. Parents have been encouraged to get involved and be close to the action, while enjoying some cold beverages from our bar on some beautiful, Summer Friday evenings.
