The recent run of inconsistent results continued as United slumped to a 4-2 defeat against lowly Fleet Town on Saturday.
With James McGowan and Luke Ricketts unavailable, Matt Johnston and Liam Tack came in to the side, with United looking to build on the 4-0 win against Marlow last weekend.
Despite the snow and freezing conditions the pitch at Calthorpe Park was in good condition, with United playing up the slope in the first half. And they started brightly, taking the lead after only five minutes when a cross from Harry Mepham was flicked-on and Liam Tack was on hand to score his first goal for the Club, poking home at the far post. United continued to press and, on 23 minutes, Lynton Goss made space on the edge of the box only to see his effort float wide of the far past.
However, just after the half hour the home side found an equaliser when a long ball from the back found Toyosi Olusanya and he stepped inside and curled an unstoppable shot in to the far corner. The home side were now in the ascendancy, with United dropping deeper and deeper and finding it difficult to clear their lines given the slope of the pitch and the blustery conditions. And it was a failure to clear that lead to the second goal for Fleet on 38 minutes when the ball fell to Wilson on the wide right and he crossed to an unmarked Ashley Lloyd who confidently headed home. United did, however, have an opportunity to equalise just before the break when a shot could only be parried by Beach in to the path of Lynton Goss, but his header just cleared the bar.
The second half started with United on the front and, on 50 minutes, a poor clearance from Beach fell to Goss whose first time lobbed effort beat Beach only for a retreating defender to acrobatically clear off the line. Only 60 seconds later and it was 3-1 as Lynn was beaten by Cadete and his cross from the right found Chris Wales at the far post to force home. On 65 minutes it was four when, in similar fashion, Cadete crossed for Bradley Wilson to score.
United changed formation in a bid to get back in to the game and, on 70 minutes substitute Aston Goss burst in to the box and crossed for brother Lynton to slide the ball home. The visitors continued to press but, despite getting in to good positions on several occasions, the final ball in to the box was invariably met by a home defender. Nevertheless, the referee waved away two penalty claims when, firstly, Dan West went down in a crowded area, before 10 minutes from time Aston Goss was hauled down in a more obvious foul on the edge of the box. As it was, United were unable to penetrate the home defence and the home side comfortably held on for three points.
