Cyclist from across the region gathered on Sunday, 14 June for the 2026 edition of the Thame Sportive, enjoying ideal riding conditions and a choice of Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced routes. The popular event once again attracted riders of all abilities, from first-time sportive participants to experienced endurance cyclists.
The Beginner route provided an accessible challenge for newcomers and leisure riders looking to test themselves over a shorter distance. Meanwhile, the Intermediate and Advanced routes offered tougher terrain and longer distances, rewarding strong pacing, endurance and tactical riding.
Among the standout performances on the Advanced route was Chris Yaxley, who recorded an impressive average pace of 23.8 mph and completed the course in 3 hours, 23 minutes and 11 seconds. Other strong rides came from Doug Young, Andrew Brook and Andy Cocks, all maintaining average speeds above 16 mph across the demanding course.
The Intermediate route also produced some exceptional performances. Amanda Grosvenor delivered one of the fastest rides of the day with an average pace of 19.9 mph and a finishing time of 2 hours, 29 minutes and 50 seconds. Frazer Robinson also impressed with an 18.5 mph average pace, highlighting the competitive nature of the middle-distance event.
On the Beginner route, Aaron Lamb set the benchmark with a pace of 15.3 mph and a finishing time of 1 hour, 57 minutes and 36 seconds. Anthony Churchill and George Leonard were among several riders who also recorded strong performances on the shorter course.
Beyond the fastest times, the event showcased the true spirit of sportive cycling. Riders of varying ages and abilities took on personal challenges, with many completing routes that pushed their endurance and fitness levels. The supportive atmosphere, well-organised course and sense of achievement at the finish line once again made the Thame Sportive a memorable occasion.
Events such as the Thame Sportive continue to play an important role in encouraging participation in cycling, bringing together competitive riders and recreational cyclists in a welcoming environment.
