Thames Valley Police have updated their top reported crimes in Thame for October 2024:
- Violence and sexual offences: 34
- Other theft: 13
- Anti-social behaviour: 9
- Criminal damage and arson: 9
They have also updated their priorities moving forward:
Anti-social behaviour

Action taken:
The team have been busy tackling a number of strands of Anti-Social Behaviour over the past 3 months. We have taken part in ASB Awareness Week where we have worked with partners in Housing and the District Council, we have responded to local concerns around begging and we have implemented a problem solving approach to reports of ASB in Love Lane, Watlington and also in Chinnor. Our Hot Spot patrols continue in priority areas identified by the public, specifically Elms Park and Thame Town Centre. We are working on issues around vandalism in Chinnor and have issued community resolutions for drugs misuse. We have also arrested a male for a series of theft from motor vehicle offences in some of the local villages. He remains on bail pending completion of the investigation.
Violence Against Women and Girls

December has seen Operation Marzipan implemented. This is a District wide operation, the intention being to reduce Violence Against Women and Girls and Anti-Social Behaviour in the Night Time Economy. We have put extra officers on high-visibility foot patrol, visited licensed premises, clubs, pubs and off-licenses as well as taxi ranks and takeaways to deliver advice on reporting such incidents. We have swabbed pubs for drug use, visited premises which run the Safe Places scheme and completed Community Safety auditing. We have worked with Street Angels, Police Cadets and colleagues from the District Council to deliver on our objectives. We have been successful in searching for illegal drugs and completed Test Purchases. This work will continue in all of the market towns in the District for the remainder of the year.
Retail Crime

The team have recently charged a prolific offender with 7 crimes committed locally including several shopliftings and public order offences. He has been charged and will be in court in the coming weeks. The same offender remains under investigation awaiting a CPS decision on a further two offences. We have been conducting regular patrols of retail premises to reassure staff and customers around this local and national priority crime time. We have been working with stores to make reporting easier and providing guidance on providing police CCTV. Officers have also been engaging with many people in the local community at the Thame Market joining the Mayor for Have Your Say events. Rural areas have also been visited and investigations are ongoing into a shoplifting issue identified with a local rural business.
