Hard work & determination brings home the title.
September saw the season start with high hopes after a solid league performance the previous season..
This was short lived with an opening defeat 2-1 away to Deanshanger Divas, following this disappointment the girls worked hard at training and were rewarded with a 3-3 draw at home to Wycombe Saints, a strong team with aspirations and the ability to win the league.
Spurred on by this performance Thame girls went onto convincingly win their next four matches,3-0 Deanshanger Divas, 9-0 Crendon Corinthians, 6-0 Moretonville and 4-3 against Langford FC.
A 2-2 draw then followed against Chesham Utd which left the standings tight at the top with our next game against Wycombe Saints the league leaders.
This away fixture on The Rye was always going to be a difficult game with passions & expectations running high. Wycombe got off to a good start with an early goal.. Thame girls stuck to their game plan and showed great determination and were rewarded with a superb 4-1 victory, much to the delight of our ever present supporters!
With confidence running high Thame girls went onto a 3-1 win against Chesham Utd and an 8-1 win against Crendon Corinthians.
These and opponents results saw the league positions finally balanced with Thame at the top, one point ahead of Wycombe Saints with two games to play. Thame girls headed over to Morentonville and secured a hard fought 2-1 win on a very ‘claggy’ pitch. League standings remained unchanged and ‘with our destiny in our own hands’ knowing a win in the last game of the season would leave Wycombe Saints unable to catch us.
On Saturday 1st April Thame played Langford FC at home, the game didn’t start well with nerves running high but Thame managed to score within 5 minutes only for the opposition to equalise quickly.. the girls would continue to apply pressure and hit the crossbar and miss many other goal scoring opportunities, with some excellent goal saving along the way by their keeper, but in the end the girls would get the well-deserved goal needed. After what seemed like an eternity the final whistle blew and Thame girls won the game 2-1 and the league title for the first time!
The girls worked very hard this season and put together an 11 game undefeated run in the league dating back to early October of last year and should be very proud of their achievements.

Thame girls now look forward to the Summer Festival of Football Tournament at The ASM Stadium on the 10th & 11th June 2017 and defending the title next season after a well-deserved summer break.
