The whips are all about 18in to 24in tall (so very diddy), Hawthorn 30, Blackthorn 105, Hazel 75, Rowan 90, Pedunculate oak 45, Silver Birch 75
We will have planted all the hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel and rowan by the end of this weekend - these have gone into 3 private garden / small holdings in Thame, Moreton and Brill as hedging mostly. If anyone would like to join a planting party on Sunday around 11.30am just contact [email protected]. I need to know in advance if you are coming.
The placing of Oak and Silver Birch is a little more tricky as they take up more space once fully grown.
So, we need to nurture these for a year or two. We have plenty still in need of a temporary home. I am happy to pot them up for you if you can look after them for a year or two. Please contact [email protected] to arrange pickup. Planting in more public areas
We have been in contact with Chinnor Rugby Club, Thame Town Cricket Club and MP Cricket Ground. They are all interested in planting some larger trees but all need to obtain permissions from various stakeholders. We are hoping that the nurtured trees will be the right size for planting in these kinds of places at about the same time as permissions might have been agreed.
Purchasing specific trees
The next part of this project will be to spend some of the sponsorship money on another batch of trees so that we are continuing to plant during this Winter.
We are working with a number of residents of Thame and surrounding towns and villages to identify areas that would be great for certain trees.
We are likely to purchase some Himalayan Birch, and some fruit trees.

Duke of Edinburgh volunteering strand
We know that many of the volunteering opportunities for the Duke of Edinburgh participants have been stopped recently due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We now have 4 students working with #ThameTrees for 3 months. They are joining in planting parties, doing litter picking, joining in with Cuttlebrook Conservation work parties and other conservation events in the locality. If you have a child still looking for a volunteering opportunity please contact [email protected] and we can discuss whether 21st Century Thame could be a good fit at this time.
moreWOODS
We are still on the lookout for more 0.1 hectare (about 0.25 acre) areas of land to join in with the bigger moreWOODS project from Woodland Trust. So if you have an area of land that you would like to make into a small wood then please contact [email protected].
