Thame to Haddenham Greenway Receives Funding to Progress

11th February 2025

The budget for the next stage of the Thame to Haddenham Greenway has been approved as part of the Oxfordshire County Council budget on Tuesday 11 February, marking a significant step forward for this vital infrastructure project. The allocated funding will allow the project to progress to the next phase of a comprehensive feasibility study.

The Thame to Haddenham Greenway is a much-needed project to improve safety and connectivity between Thame and Haddenham. With strong local support, it will provide safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists, while linking to Haddenham train station, making it easier for people to use public transport and reduce congestion.

However, the project faced a challenge when the Conservative alternative budget sought to remove the funding for the Greenway project. Despite this opposition, the Conservative proposal failed to achieve support, ensuring that the funding remained in place and that the project will continue to move forward.

County Councillor for Thame and Chinnor Kate Gregory said:

"I'm really excited that the Thame to Haddenham Greenway is moving forward. This is something local residents and businesses have been calling for, and it's great to see it making progress. The Greenway will make travel safer and more sustainable, plus it will connect directly to Haddenham train station, giving people an easy and safe way to use public transport."

Freddie van Mierlo, MP for Henley and Thame said:

"I am delighted that the council has approved funding for the Thame to Haddenham Greenway. This project is an important step towards improving local transport and creating safer, more sustainable travel options.  The support from the community has been overwhelming, and I’m pleased to see that the project is progressing, despite the challenges posed by the Conservative alternative budget. It’s vital that we continue to invest in infrastructure that benefits local residents and the environment."
