CHINNOR RFC Thame are delighted to confirm the signing of scrum-half Jacob Ham.
The 22-year-old joins Joe Pigott in contention for the No 9 jersey as Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe moves closer to finalising his half-backs for the 2020/21 campaign.
Jacob recently finished his Geography degree at Loughborough University and has plenty of National League experience under his belt for Loughborough Students, Stourbridge and South Leicester.
Ham is good friends with Charley Robinson from their time together in the Worcester Warriors Academy and our hooker played a key role in the move.
Jacob said: “I actually went to Cheltenham Races just before lockdown for the Gold Cup and I bumped into Charley who told me Chinnor is a great club and he would put my name forward. I know a couple of other players who have also been at Chinnor and Callum Watson also said it was a very good club. I reached out to Charley again and he forwarded me on to Richard Thorpe and it went from there.”
He added: “It’s great to be here and I’m really enjoying my time at the Club so far. As a relatively young player who has had a fair bit of experience in the National Leagues and looking to make the step up to National League 1, it feels like the right place to be. Chinnor have got good coaches in place, especially for me being a scrum-half. Craig Hampson (Attack Coach) has experience in the Premiership and Championship, he knows his stuff, so I will be picking his brains. There’s a lot I can improve on and having the opportunity to work with the personnel we have got at the Club is huge for me.”
Chinnor RFC Thame Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe said: “I have been impressed with Jacob so far during our pre-season sessions. He has been working hard with Craig and is developing week on week. As we now push into the next phase of our preparations - and with the further easing of our training restrictions - I am excited to see him step up to controlling our games at 9, and directing our forward pack.”
