I'm reaching out to all residents of the town and surrounding villages to let you know that this Sunday, the annual Thame 10km road race takes place, an event which over the years has raised tens of thousands of pounds and benefitted a wide variety of local charities and deserving causes, and this Sunday will be no exception.
It's my duty as race secretary to inform you all that to comply with our race license and public liability insurance that it is necessary for us to put two road closures in place in order to ensure the safety of all the runners taking part. These closures are agreed by Oxfordshire County Council Events and Co-ordination team as part of a Special Events Licence. For many residents this is not a problem as they are at a fairly early hour on a Sunday when families are enjoying a Sunday breakfast at home. However, we are aware that a number of people are out and about at an early hour to go visiting shops or friends and family and to these individuals we apologise for any disruption.
For your information the closure details are as follows:-
08.55 - 09.15
Oxford Road Roundabout at the A418 to the Rising Sun mini roundabout at its junction with Souther Road.
09.00 - 10.00
The Chinnor Road Roundabout B4445 to the Kingsey Road roundabout by the Chinnor Rugby Club along the Eastern by-pass.
If you're at a loose end on Sunday morning, please come out and support the runners as they make their way through the town at 9.00 a.m. and out to Towersey before returning along the Phoenix Trail to the finish on the field at Lord Williams's School Upper School. I'm sure your cheers will be much appreciated. Thanks.
